Mike is a first-generation farmer who established his own flock in 2005, progressing to organic certification in 2023. After experimenting with various breeds, his long-term plans are to concentrate on Poll Dorsets, increasing to 600-plus-head, maintaining a closed flock and continuing to lamb three times in two years to offer a consistent, year-round supply of lambs, which in turn provides more marketing opportunities. Mike also plans to expand his suckler herd.

After an opportunity to visit a range of EU countries tackling similar but more extreme changing weather patterns than here in the UK, Mike’s passion for agroforestry flourished. In late 2023 he began tree planting on-farm, looking to grow and expand his business. Mike has become what he describes as an ‘agroforestry geek’ taking any opportunity to speak with like-minded farmers. Mike aims to expand his on-farm tree planting to continue to profit from the environmental, health & welfare and economic benefits agroforestry brings
