We’re proud to welcome you all to Groundswell 2023, which is all set to be another fantastic event of knowledge sharing and an exploration of the latest advances in regenerative agriculture.
Over the years, Groundswell has provided a welcoming and friendly environment for us as a water company to learn about regenerative agriculture and shown us the journeys which many farmers are on to improve their soils. Healthy soils buffer extreme weather events, the water that falls onto soils rich in organic matter is filtered as it drains into water courses and infiltrates down into aquifers – soil and water are intrinsically linked and well-functioning soils across catchments, is the most sustainable form of water treatment there is.
There are so many pressures on farmers today to not only make land management decisions which sustainably produce our food, but expectations to enhance biodiversity, sequester carbon and protect our water. As a water company, we benefit from this way of farming, the insight you kindly share with us and it is only right that we support you in this journey.
Groundswell has inspired our catchment management team and shaped our funding schemes for farmers. It focused our attention to cover cropping to help fix nitrate, inspired us to trial different species of companion crops in oilseed rape to reduce herbicide losses, as well as support farmers with full year cover crops purely to enhance soil health and as a springboard for the next cash crop.
Affinity Water are proud to sponsor Groundswell for the sixth time and I look forward to learning more about how we can work with farmers to protect water and the environment. We hope you have a fantastic two days and please come and visit our stand, see our field trials data, have a chat about opportunities for us to work together and help yourself to a free water bottle.
