JP Lewis is a master thatcher of 50 years’ standing. His innate love of the countryside and all things rural spurred him into understanding and acquiring the skills to perfect some of our ancient rural crafts. He makes bespoke hats out of rush which is grown locally in the River Great Ouse in Bedfordshire, straw dollies and a range of straw crafts and plaiting. Working with natural products means there are times when odds and ends can be turned into useful items like candle sconces, wooden stools, mirrors and other interesting objects for the country home. Zero waste and mostly produced from home grown ancient wheat varieties.
