Claire and Sam Beaumont farm traditional beef shorthorn cattle at Gowbarrow Hall Farm in Cumbria. The farm is mainly permanent grassland, all classed as either severely disadvantaged area (SDA) or SDA moorland. A few years ago they chose to start practising regenerative farming and adding value to their produce by selling direct. They overwinter all their stock except in exceptional circumstances, using a combination of deferred grazing in wood pasture, bale grazing and electric fence rotational grazing for weaned calves.
