Jennifer is an Agile Initiative Research Fellow in the University of Oxford, specialising in environmental policy and sustainable land governance. She also works on a Defra-funded project, delivering participatory social research for the development of England’s agri-environment schemes. Jennifer farms breeding sheep and Blue Grey cattle in the North Pennines, Cumbria, as a new entrant hill farmer. She is extremely passionate about upland farming and has her own small flock of Herdwick sheep.
Often conservation grazing is considered a ‘nice to do’ rather than a viable business opportunity. We hear from farmers and graziers in this session about the ways they have leveraged their knowledge and skills to build successful business models utilising ‘conservation’ and ‘restoration’ grazing services that offer viable business outcomes for new entrants.
