Dr. Jill Clapperton is the Principal Scientist and Owner of Rhizoterra Inc.  She is an internationally recognized educator on how to create, measure, and maintain healthy productive soils that produce tasty, nutrient dense food. As the Rhizosphere Ecologist at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Lethbridge Research Centre for 16 years, her research had a strong focus on the effects of soil management and cropping practices (cover crops, companion crops and crop sequence) on soil biota with an emphasis on mycorrhizal fungi, earthworms and soil microarthropods (mites).  Jill continued her “on farm” research after she founded Rhizoterra Inc and moved to Washington State USA. During her time in Washington, she served as a Board Member for the Pacific Northwest Direct Seed Association for 5 years and helped develop and coordinate the Farmed Smart Program that certifies farms as Sustainable and Regenerative.  With the strong belief that healthy soils grow tasty nutrient rich foods, Jill pursued research aimed at uncovering which agricultural practices naturally increase nutrient uptake in plants, and how this changes the nutritional value of food. Recently, Jill has co-founded a new company called Edacious, that will help everyone know the quality of the food they eat, and assist producers to grow, raise and differentiate their food based on nutrient value.

Rhizoterra Inc is an international food security consulting company that works together with producers to regenerate the biological and environmental integrity of the land so we can grow in abundance the best food possible.

People growing food in healthy soil hold all the keys to food security and wellness. Increasingly, we see the benefits from eating whole foods grown in these regenerative systems. Healthy soil is the foundation for the ecosystem services that are at the heart of our food production system. The evidence or metric for this relationship […]

Measuring Success Now & In The Future

Breakout Tent

If the quality of food is a measure for how we grow food. Then let’s talk about how we can field measure soil and crop properties, and food quality, and what is new and exciting. Along the way I expect we will discuss what and why we want to measure certain properties (or not). We […]
