If we recognise that context is key to effective implementation of the regenerative principles to deliver high quality food, soil and biodiversity outcomes whilst achieving Net Zero, then are there some circumstances where we need to break the regen principles to get regen outcomes? For example in drained lowland peat landscapes, water management is key to preventing peatland degradation and a blind application of regen. principles would lead to continued landscape degradation. Drawing from experience with farmers in diverse landscapes and farming systems across the UK, Elizabeth Stockdale will discuss whether context might mean we sometimes need to recognise a different starting point for regenerative system design than applies in mixed / combinable cropping.
