Andrew Court runs a 274-acre mixed farm in Staffordshire with his mother and brother. Cotes Lodge Farm was rented and subsequently owned by his mother’s family over several generations. The farm is mainly arable, growing winter wheat (flour), spring oats (porridge) as well as winter beans (protein) and barley (malting/feed). Oilseed rape is also a staple of the rotation. This year he is try sunflowers too. Keen to move the farm towards being carbon negative and environmentally sustainable, Andrew direct drills his crops rather than ploughing, integrates green manures widely, and finishes Aberdeen Angus and Wagu cattle on permanent pastures.
