Grass based dairy systems are often seen as carbon inefficient using traditional metrics. This session will focus on the key questions around the future of UK dairy farming challenging the narrative provided by these metrics. It will highlight existing activities undertaken by three different milk processors and cooperatives to measure the impact of changes in management systems, including evidence from on-farm trials carried out by farmers who have made the transition to regenerative systems, demonstrating the importance of dairy systems to soil health, resilient landscapes and combating climate change. Hear how they are changing the metrics, empowering their farmers to try new things and how these farmers have implemented regenerative practices to disrupt the status quo.
